The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced that 47-year-old Ha Thithu Nguyen pleaded guilty April 10 to four counts of practicing medicine without a license. Her husband, 61-year-old Zbigniew Makowski, pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the practice of medicine without a license.

In addition, both defendants pleaded guilty to two counts of mayhem.

Prosecutors say from 2002 to 2007, Nguyen, who is not a licensed doctor, performed cosmetic surgeries that included facelifts, lip plumps and tummy tucks on seven known victims.

The results of those surgeries left some victims with permanent scars, and some faced future medical procedures to correct the resulting problems.

Nguyen performed the surgeries, and Makowski often helped his wife by picking up and driving the victims to the couple's San Jose home, where the surgeries took place, reports state. He also accepted money for the surgeries, as well as aided Nguyen during the procedures, according to the district attorney's office.

Both defendants are in Santa Clara County Jail.

Nguyen faces a sentence of seven years, four months in prison, and Makowski faces two years, eight months in prison. Nguyen was sentenced on May 2, and Makowski will be sentenced on May 30.
