After 10 years in San Jose's political arena, Armando Gomez recently announced he plans to quit his day job working as budget director for San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed.

Gomez, a 35-year-old Milpitas City Council member first elected in 2002, said he wants to spend more time with his wife and two sons, ages 6 and 9.

"I've just been with Chuck for 10 years," Gomez said. "I want to take time off and spend a lot of time with my family."

He added there's no definite date for his departure.

"We're still figuring out a date, but possibly in August," Gomez said.

The Milpitas High School graduate had worked as a Reed aide since Reed's first campaign to occupy the District Four San Jose City Council seat that covers Berryessa, Alviso and North San Jose.

In the late 1990s, Gomez worked for the San Francisco Ethics Commission, where he assisted with that city's Sunshine Ordinance.
