After being on the run from law enforcement for almost 20 years, a San Jose man extradited from Germany pleaded guilty June 12 to molesting two Milpitas boys in 1988.

Carl Stephen Kaminski's sentencing date will be held July 11 in Santa Clara County Superior Court. He faces 10 years in prison for his crimes.

A former computer engineer from San Jose, Kaminski, 65, was charged 20 years ago with two counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon two separate victims at his home in San Jose.

"They were both young boys living in Milpitas," said Nick Muyo, a Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office spokesman.

Muyo added at the time of the offenses the victims were 9 and 10 years old. Muyo would not say how the suspect lured the victims to his home.

"How he met them, where he met them and how he got them into the house; we're not going to get into that," Muyo said. "We don't want to identify the victims."

Santa Clara County Superior Court issued an arrest warrant in 1988, but before the warrant could be served, Kaminski fled the United States. Investigators determined Kaminski's escape was planned and aided by his attorney, Bruce Nickerson, who was later convicted of aiding and abetting.

Kaminski was located in Munich, Germany. Kaminski's apprehension and extradition resulted from a combined effort by San Jose Police Department, Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Other U.S. and German law enforcement agencies also assisted in Kaminski's extradition.
